Gordon College’s newspaper, The Tartan ceases printing this year, and jumps to cyberspace in the fall semester. Gordon’s newspaper filled the college stands for fifty years, but due to economic pressure, the college decided to move the newspaper online.
“I think it’s a good idea,” said John Wendel, a senior biblical studies and history major “it saves you [the college] from wasting paper, but bad because [it's] out of sight and out of mind.” Concerning the Tartan’s metamorphosis. He said that both print media and the Internet have their uses, however he did suggest that the Tartan might become larger than it was before.
Caleb Poehler maintains reservations. “I don’t think that people will read it. Said Poehelr, "There is so much online already.” He worries that, in the shift to the World Wide Web, the Tartan will lose some of its personality and culture. “It’s sort of a cultural thing to do.” said Poheler “You see movies with the old man reading the paper.”
For Caleb, the print version of the Tartan was easier to access than the online sources. With the newspaper going to the Internet, he said it may lose some of its uniqueness as a newspaper.
Reservations or not, the Tartan has gone online “The Tartan’s going green” Says Wendel “I wonder if anyone will ever read it?”
