Men’s XC sweeps Quad Meet
By Steven Fletcher
The first cross country race of the season began at 9:00am with a roaring start as thirty four runners from Salem State, Endicott College, New England College and Gordon College charged out from the quad, cheered on by teammates and passing Gordon Students. Gordon College won a sound victory securing four out of the five scoring spots. The men’s team scored seventeen points, just two more than a perfect sweep.
Gordon Freshman Josh Porizky took first place in the 8k (five mile) race with a time of 28:17, breaking the meet record by twenty seconds. Following Porizky were Junior and Captain Andrew Worth finishing in second place with a time of 28:42, Senior Kirk Vanacore finishing in third place with a time of 29:07 and Freshman Max Kronberg finishing in fifth with a time of 29:11.
The Gordon men’s team shamed all expectations. Each runner ran equal to or faster than Coach John Molvar projected. “The men’s team is better than last year’s,” said Molvar, “and last year was our best one.” Molvar has high hopes for this season and the men’s team is right where he wants it to be. His runners share the sentiments after an exceedingly successful race.
“I felt the team did very well for the first race of the season” said four year veteran Kirk Vanacore. “It’s going to be a good season, we have a team with a lot of potential.” Indeed they do. Two of the top five runners, Porizky and Kronberg ran their first 8k race, and several of Gordon’s top ten are underclassmen.
Coach is amazing and the team has trained well,” said Max Kronberg when asked about his first race, “I don’t think it can get any worse.” By the look of things, it doesn’t look like it will get worse. Gordon has a powerful men’s team and the only way they’re going is up and the only way they’re getting they’re getting there is fast.
